Personal Training

Every member has their own reason for joining a health club. Some join to get in shape, some join to stay in shape. If you joined for either of those reasons, then working with a personal trainer will help you reach your goals.

Our trainers have extremely varied backgrounds and interests. You are sure to find a good match for your fitness training. Our trainers do more than just work with personal clients. They also teach all of our fitness classes. Some of them even teach yoga and Spinning®. Feel free to email them, call the club to make an appointment, or take one of the many classes they teach.

Andrew: "Men and women are built very different, and should be trained as such. My knowledge and experience within the training world has allowed me to understand how to optimally train both successfully and safely. My specialty is weight training, however I am hardly limited to it. Hard work and dedication are the only ways to reach your physical goals. Allow me to help you achieve that by exposing you to a variety of workouts and techniques that will both educate you and reshape your body into the physique that you desire."

Andrew works evenings at the St. John's club. <send email>

Ash: Ash spends most of his time at our Alberta club. He teaches the 30 Minute Beginning Spinning® classes. He also welcomes all our new members with an in-depth orientation that includes a series of strength tests. <send email>

Christie: "Fitness has literally saved my life. I have found that both Parkinson's and Breast Cancer have opened doors for me AND inspired me to "USE IT OR LOSE IT."  My goal is simply to take what I have learned to help others facing similar challenges:  Facing memory loss (defiantly), learning coping strategies, incorporating mental exercises and multitasking with physical activities to challenge the fitness of our minds and bodies, and learning from each person I meet.  Special training and certifications include: Pilates, Functional Fitness, Balance, Aquatics, Vocal coaching, Zumba Gold, Rehabilitation, and OHSU's Sensorimotor Agility and Proprioception Training with an emphasis on training clients with Parkinsons." <send email>

Catherine: "I have been a certified fitness specialist since 1994, helping kids and adults ages 8-88 lead healthier lives. As a company member of Imago Theatre’s FROGZ, I maintained a rugged touring schedule and had the opportunity to teach physical theater workshops for high school and college students across the country. A background in contemporary dance has given me knowledge and experience in alignment, balance, core strengthening and release techniques. In addition to my training in sports and exercise science, I have been a student of yoga since I was a kid and started teaching hatha yoga in 1996."

Catherine is very busy. She teaches 11 classes each week at the St. John's club. A little FYI - Catherine has been with us since January of 1998. <send email>

Jocelyn: "I have been a fitness instructor and personal trainer for over 10 years helping individuals achieve their personal best and attain their goals. I believe exercise should be fun, motivating and part of our everyday lives! I have a broad background in athletics- a Division 1, three sport athlete-competing in track, cross country and tennis for the University of Oregon. I was named the 1996 Athlete of the year by USA Triathlon and was the 1996 JR National Triathlon Champion. I represented the US by competing in the World Duathlon and Triathlon Championships and spent time training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. From running your first 10k, hitting the golf ball farther, improving your over-all health, or even dropping that last 10 lbs, I'd love to help you every step of the way!"

Jocelyn teaches and trains at both of our main clubs. She teaches Spinning®, several fitness and core classes, as well as our Kids P.E. class. Jocelyn is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, ACE Certified in Group Fitness, and holds a B.S. in Physical Education and Health. <send email>

Molly: "Daily exercise is a necessity for a healthy body and mind, and should be a priority in everyone's lives. I am a working mother of three and I understand how challenging it can be to fit a workout in to a busy day. I can help you create an efficient but challenging workout that allows you to incorporate all aspects of a healthy lifestyle into to your daily routine. My job as a personal trainer is to collaborate with you to create a workout that builds on your present state of fitness and works towards your future goals. And to make it fun!
I am a runner, road and mountain biker and have completed 9 marathons and 30 plus triathlons. I began teaching yoga 3 years ago and believe strongly in the benefits of a continuous practice.
I am ACE certified and have been working as a personal trainner since 2004. I also teach group classes and yoga. My client base includes all ages and levels of fitness."

Molly works out of our Alberta club. In addition to personal training, she also teaches Spinning®, yoga, and conditioning classes. <send email>

DeShawn: "I classify my style of training as Spartan Training. Spartan Training is characterized by stern discipline and rigorously simple exercises. It is a calculated mix of traditional and novel strength and conditioning exercises; which incorporates metabolic conditioning, high intensity interval training, odd-object lifting and much more. Spartan Training produces fast and measurable results whether you're seeking muscle mass and definition, looking to boost performance in a particular sport/activity, or just to lose weight and tone up. It takes the best of all training methods and puts them into a truly comprehensive routine that's goal specific. My client base includes all ages and levels of fitness. I train both men and women successfully and safely. Work-outs are scaled to your individual level and ability. Spartan Training promotes a stand-and-deliver, do-or-die fitness culture that tolerates no complaining or excuse-making."

Christopher: "I am a Professional MMA fighter with a background in boxing/kickboxing.  I specialize in Plyometrics, Core training, muscle endurance.  I pay great attention to technique and form.  I give each of my clients a custom program, depending on their goals and  level of fitness. I have a great knowledge of nutrition, if you need to lose weight fast for an upcoming event, I can help.  As a fighter I am constantly dropping anywhere from 15-20lbs in a few weeks.  If you want to learn how to box, lose weight, or add some new exercises to your workout, let's schedule a training time." <send email>

Tanning

We have two ways to tan - on your back, or on your feet. Both clubs offer stand-up tanning in HEX II tanning booths. These are equipped with 46 high-output lamps that bring tanning sessions down to less than 12 minutes.

If you prefer to have a more leisurely experience, the St. John's club also has a Soltron XS-35 lay-down bed. This bed has 36 bulbs for a very even tan. It is a very comfortable place to spend a warm 20 minutes.

We have two different ways to price our tans - if you are a gym member, or if you are not. It is cheaper if you become a gym member.
